Economic Buzz: US consumer price inflation growth softens to 2.9% on year in July

The US consumer price index increased 0.2% last month after falling 0.1% in June, the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics said today. In the 12 months through July, the CPI increased 2.9% after advancing 3.0% in June. The core consumer prices, which exclude food and energy prices, edged up by 0.2% in July after rising by 0.1% in June. The annual rate of core consumer price growth slipped to 3.2% in July from 3.3% in June.
