Copper edges near one week high

COMEX Copper futures edged up near one week high today as equities stayed supported in Asia and Europe. The metal currently trades up 0.44% at $4.32 per pound. Asian stocks rose as Japanese Nikkei average gained 0.72% after a tumble in last session. Markets in mainland China remained closed for the Lunar New Year holiday while Hong Kong's Hang Seng index jumped 2.80%. European stocks slumped with major indices losing around 2% as global trade fears weighed on the sentiments. Trade war worries hurt sentiments though the major US averages climbed well off their worst levels and ended in the red. However, United States President Donald Trump announced that he would immediately pause tariffs on Mexico and Canada for 30 days after speaking with their leaders on Monday.
