Commodities Buzz: SEA says Vegetable oil import slides 6% on year in last seven months, Mustard crushing rises

The Solvent Extractors' Association of India has released import data for vegetable oils (edible & non-edible) for April 2025. Imports during the month totalled 891,558 tons, compared to 1,318,528 tons in April 2024, marking a 32% decline compared to same month of last year. This includes 862,558 tons of edible oils and 29,000 tons of non-edible oils. In first six months of the oil year 2024-25 (November 2024 ' April 2025), total vegetable oil imports reached 6,697,700 tons, down by 6% from 7,148,643 tons in the same period last year. The stock of edible oils as on 1st May, 2025 at various ports is the lowest and provisionally estimated at 700,000 tons (CPO 155,000 tons, RBD Palmolein 110,000 tons, Degummed Soybean Oil 135,000 tons and Crude Sunflower Oil 300,000 tons) and pipeline stock considering domestic production and consumption reported at 651,000 tons. The Total stock as on 1st May, 2025 reported at 1,351,000 tons compared to 1,666,000 tons as on 1st Apr., 2025 decreased by 315,000 tons. The import in last three months reported at very low level due to reduce demand of palm oil coupled with increased crushing of mustard in the country.
