Australia's trade surplus narrowed sharply to AUD 2.24 billion in May 2025, the smallest since August 2020, down from AUD 4.86 billion in April. Exports fell 2.7 percent to AUD 42.4 billion, driven by weaker shipments to the US and declines across rural goods, non-rural goods, and non-monetary gold. Meanwhile, imports surged 3.8 percent to a record AUD 40.16 billion, led by rising demand for capital goods.
