Market Speaks: SEBI says commodity futures market turnover spurts 37.4% in FY25

During 2024-25, across all the exchanges, 42 commodity contracts of 24 unique commodities were traded, Securities & Exchange Board of India (SEBI), noted in its latest annual report. During 2024-25, in aggregate, the futures turnover increased by 37.4% to Rs 71.4 lakh crore, whereas the options turnover (notional) increased by 122.3 per cent to Rs 508.3 lakh crore in 2024-25. The premium turnover also increased by 88.2% to Rs 8.1 lakh crore from Rs 4.3 lakh crore during the period. During 2024-25, the notional turnover in the agri segment decreased by 28.5% to 1.5 lakh crore from Rs 2.1 trillion in 2023-24. In the non-agri segment the notional turnover increased to Rs 578 lakh crore in 2024-25 from Rs 279 trillion in 2023-24. Within non-agri segment, the notional turnover of energy contracts increased by 96.8% to Rs 432 lakh crore over the previous year. Similarly, notional turnover of bullion contracts increased by 153.6% to Rs 138 lakh crore while that of base metal contracts increased by 76.9% to Rs 8.6 lakh crore over the previous year.
