Agri Buzz: Kharif acreage up marginally on year, Coarse cereals area spikes around 6.60%

The total area sown under kharif crops in the current season has increased by 26.93 lakh hectares to 1,120.73 lakh hectares, as on September 26, compared with the corresponding figure of 1113.72 lakh hectares in the same period last year, data released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare on Monday showed. This marks 0.62% rise on year. The area under rice is 441.58 lakh hectares, up 1.35% on year. The area under pulses is at 119.85 lakh hectares, up 0.75% compared to last year. The area covered under coarse cereals has spiked by 6.60% on year to 194.67 lakh hectares. Oilseeds acreage has dropped though, standing at 190.01 lakh hectares, down around 5.24% on year. The area under sugarcane has increased 3.23% to 57.31 lakh hectares while Cotton area is down 2.62% at 109.68 lakh hectares.
