Agri Buzz: Rabi area up 3.30% on year, Cereals acreage spikes around 5%

The total area sown under rabi crops in current winter season has increased by 3.30% on year to 652.33 lakh hectares as on January 16 this year, data released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare showed. The area under major crop wheat has gained 1.86% on year to 334.17 lakh hectares. The area under pulses has gone up by 2.86% on year to 137 lakh hectares. Main pulses crop Gram or Chana has seen its area surge 5.10% to 95.88 lakh hectares. Area covered under coarse cereals has zoomed up around 5% to 58.72 lakh hectares. The area under oilseeds stood at 96.36 lakh hectares, up 3.78% on year. Area under main oilseed Mustard has moved up 3.22% to 89.36 lakh hectares.
