Commodities Buzz: Freeport Copper production dips around 20% in 2025

Freeport-McMoRan, the global mining major has come up with its fourth-quarter 2025 operating results. Fourth-quarter 2025 sales of 709 million pounds were 12% higher than October 2025 estimates of 635 million pounds, primarily reflecting a higher-than-expected reduction in inventories in Indonesia. As expected, fourth-quarter 2025 sales were below fourth-quarter 2024 as a result of lower production in Indonesia. It fourth-quarter 2025 Copper production of 640 million pounds was significantly below fourth-quarter 2024 production of 1.0 billion pounds, primarily reflecting the impact of the September 2025 mud rush incident on PTFI's operations. For full year 2025, the company's Copper output stood at 3383 million pounds, down around 20% on year. Copper sales were at 3574 million pounds, down around 12% on year. Gold output fell around 49% on year to 956 thousand ounces mostly due to a sharp slide in output in fourth quarter.
