Global Sugar futures have rebounded from five-year low amid a generic uptick in commodities as the US dollar slipped. March NY world sugar futures zoomed around 2.50% to 14.60 cents per pound. The commodity has been under intense stress recently on global sugar surpluses and higher global production estimates. Prices fell around 5% in last month. Meanwhile, Unica has reported that Brazil's cumulative 2025-26 Center-South sugar output through December rose by 0.9% on year to 40.222 million metric tonnes or MMT. The India Sugar Mill Association (ISMA) also reported that India's 2025-26 sugar output from Oct 1-Jan 15 is up 22% on year to 15.9 MMT. The ISMA has cut its estimate for sugar used for ethanol production in India to 3.4 MMT from a July forecast of 5 MMT, which is likely to boost India's sugar exports. Given this, the broad outlook is still tepid for sugar.
