Economic Buzz: Australia business confidence ticks higher as conditions soften

Australia's NAB Business Confidence Index edged up to 3 in January 2026, the highest level since October, signalling a modest improvement in sentiment. However, business conditions weakened, with softer sales and profit indicators offsetting steady employment. Cost pressures continued to ease, with labour and input costs moderating, while quarterly retail price growth slowed further, reinforcing signs of cooling inflation across the economy.
