Agri Buzz: Summer crop sowing sees steady progress

The sowing of summer crops is continuing at a slightly staggered pace on annual basis, according to the latest data from Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare. As on 23rd March 2026, the total area under summer crops stood at 21.3 lakh hectares, up 0.92 lakh hectares or nearly 4.50% on year. Area under rice is at 17.78 lakh hectares, unchanged on the year. Area under Pulses stood at 0.91 lakh hectares, up around 20% on year. Oilseeds acreage also rose by 0.46% to 1.24 lakh hectares. Area under coarse cereals stood at 1.38 lakh hectares, up 0.3% on year.
