Economic Buzz: UK economy shows slight growth in December
13-Mar-2026 12:45
The United Kingdom's economy recorded marginal growth in the latest three-month period, according to data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Real gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 0.1% in the three months to November, following a decline of 0.1% in the previous two three-month periods ending in October and November. Earlier estimates had suggested slightly stronger performance but were revised downward.

Growth across sectors was mixed during the period. The services sector, which is the largest part of the UK economy, showed no growth. This follows a similar flat performance in the previous three-month period, which was revised down from an earlier estimate of 0.2% growth.

The production sector performed better, recording a 1.2% increase after a 0.1% decline in the previous three-month period. However, the construction sector continued to weaken, contracting by 2.1% after a 0.9% fall previously. The data indicates that construction activity has been slowing since May 2025, marking its weakest three-month performance since September 2021.

On a monthly basis, GDP rose slightly by 0.1% in December 2025. This follows growth of 0.2% in November, which was revised down from 0.3%, and a 0.1% decline in October.

In December, services output increased by 0.3%, while production fell by 0.9% and construction dropped by 0.5%.
