Economic Buzz: UK industrial output rebounds as energy and manufacturing support growth
The growth was mainly supported by manufacturing, which rose 1.2%, and electricity and gas, which increased by 3.6%. However, this was partly offset by a 2.1% decline in mining and quarrying.
Within manufacturing, transport equipment was the biggest contributor, rising by 8.9%, with motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers jumping 18.8% as the sector continued to recover from disruptions in 2025.
On a monthly basis, production output grew by 0.5% in February 2026, following a fall of 0.1% in January and 0.4% in December 2025.
The monthly increase was driven by mining and quarrying, which rose 3.9%, and electricity and gas, up 1.5%, while manufacturing saw a slight decline of 0.1%.
