Agri Buzz: Summer crop sowing gains 3.30% on year, rice area falls

The total area sown to summer-season crops has gained 3.30% to 81.6 lakh hectares till 4th May this year, with maximum coverage under paddy, according to the agriculture ministry data. Rice has been sown in 31.05 lakh hectares till May 4 this year, down 4.20% on year. Pulses acreage increased 3.20% to 23.49 lakh hectare while oilseeds acreage spiked 15.20% to 11.04 lakh tonne. Area sown to coarse cereals also soared 12.35% on year to 16.04 lakh hectares.
