Economic Buzz: Philly Fed index sees sharp downward swing

The Philadelphia Fed manufacturing index stood at -0.4 for May, down from 26.7 in April. That's a massive swing of roughly 27 points in a single month. This means that manufacturers in the Third Federal Reserve District went from confidently expanding to essentially standing still, with a slight lean toward contraction.
