Economic Buzz: US initial jobless claims up by 5,000 to 215,000

The number of seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims in the United States increased by 5,000 from last week's revised figure to 215,000 in the week ending May 23, the Department of Labor revealed in its report on Thursday. Meanwhile, the four-week moving average rose by 6,250 from the previous week's revised average to reach 209,000.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate for the week ending May 16 stood at 1.2%, unchanged from the week before. Meanwhile, the insured unemployed figure for the same week stood at 1,786,000, going up by 15,000 from the previous week's revised figure, and the four-week moving average was up by 2,500 to land at 1,772,750.
