Economic Buzz: German producer prices up 2.2% in May
19-Jun-2026 12:33
Producer prices in Germany rose by 2.2% in May compared to the same month in the previous year, the country's statistical office Destatis revealed in its report on Friday. The figure increased by 0.3% compared to April.

The annual rise in producer prices in the reported month was mainly attributed to an increase in intermediate goods, which climbed by 4.2% year-on-year, followed by energy prices, which advanced by 2.5% compared to May 2025. Capital goods and durable consumer goods both grew by 2% on an annual basis, while non-durable consumer goods declined by 1.7%.

Within the energy sector, the main driver of higher prices was the increase in mineral oil products prices, which jumped by 34.9% compared to the same period in the previous year due to the conflict in Iran and the Middle East. However, the prices of natural gas and electricity decreased by 1.3% and 4.6%, respectively, year over year.
