Agri Buzz: Kharif area falls 16%, Rice acreage down 8.60%

According to latest data from Agriculture Ministry, total acreage has declined to 530 lakh hectares as on 10 July 2026, recording a 16% decrease from 632 lakh hectares at same time last year. Area under main kharif crop paddy dropped by 8.60% to 114 lakh hectares. The pulses sowing has dipped 23% to 56.63 lakh hectares while area under coverage for coarse cereals fell around 22.50% to 98.70 lakh hectares. Sowing area under oilseeds also fell 21% to 117.83 lakh hectares. In other commodities, Cotton sowing dropped 15% to 79.54 lakh hectares while Sugarcane acreage is up 1.51% at 57.58 lakh hectares.
