Base Metals Preview: A decline in the Dollar Index (DXY) is bolstering copper's advance, providing supportive momentum near a record high level.
COMEX copper rebounded to record highs Tuesday morning in Asia, propelled by a weakening dollar and a strengthening yen. The DXY index’s retreat below the 99 level is contributing to advances in the red metal, currently valued at $6.79 per pound, a 1.56% daily increase. Concurrently, Asian equity markets exhibited a mixed performance Tuesday, reflecting the indecisive sentiment from European markets and the absence of direction from Wall Street overnight, as investors remain apprehensive regarding the Middle East conflict and the escalation in crude oil prices, which is intensifying global inflation and economic growth concerns. Asian markets concluded mostly higher on Monday. Recent U.S. actions targeting Iranian tankers and Tehran’s declaration of a new restricted zone outside the Strait of Hormuz have heightened anxieties concerning potential disruptions to energy supplies.
